I recently came across an article by The Associated Press, which I would like to share with you.
It emphasizes, ‘Don’t wait until you have pain or dysfunction: Consult a Physiotherapist sooner.’
This philosophy is totally in keeping with the GLA:D exercise program we offer at Davisville Yonge Clinics. Unfortunately, we often see patients with more advanced osteoarthritis, and it would have been much more beneficial if they had initiated strength training and education sooner when still in the early stages.
Evidence supports that to continue enjoying your favorite sports activities it is important to incorporate certain conditioning exercises to prevent injury and keep you in the sport as you age.
All professional athletes now have various coaches (strength, agility, skill) to address various aspects of their sport to prevent injury and enhance performance. Even in little league baseball, young pitchers are only allowed a maximum number of pitches in a game to prevent “little leaguer’s elbow”.
Posture is also often what brings people into a Physiotherapy clinic. They glance in a mirror and cannot believe how they look. Posture is hereditary but if you sit at a desk all day you also assume the position you are in. Mindfulness and specific exercises will help restore and improve your posture.
This article does an excellent job of laying out the importance of Physiotherapy in overall understanding of preventative health care.
